You're right in some respects. The opposite side of that, for me anyway, is that I like having "casts" of people to work with. I enjoy working with all of the people bring on to do a character (or characters) with each project and having a big list of credits with all of them because of their awesome abilities. Voice acting (and directing, in my case) is one of the funnest parts of the animation process to me.

Also I think the reason a lot of amateur VAs end up "sounding like anime characters" is because most of the people who wanna get into the business these days are people who were "inspired by" anime voice actors...a.k.a. going to anime convention and hearing how fun and cool it is to do it.

The characters still matter, but it's still interesting to know the person behind this "shell"

I can't say that there's just ONE and only one good voice actor here on NG. However i do see your point.

"make sure you plaster there name all over everything"
ITS "THEIR" DAMN IT YOUR OPINION IS WRONG NOW
>:((((((

My Spelling Is CREATIVE!

Not long ago you were seeking Egoraptor and Rina Chans vocal talent, it seems just abit hypocritical when this issue seemed to intensify in HappyHarry's post.

I think anyone well known or not can bring a character to life, think Ratouille which had a mix of voice actors celebrity and not, Linguini's voice was perfect for the nervous bumbler, while Peter O Toole's voice for Anton Ego was perfect for his imposing character.

I mean you havn't heard the characters that will be in HappyHarry's cartoon, you can't tell yet if Egoraptor is going to be his usual 'OH FUCK, OH SHIT THERES PISS EVERYWHERE...... PENIS', in my opinion writing is most important to make good characters, and then finding a voice actor who can carry the dialogue how you direct. Thems my thoughts.

Indeed, i used Rina in a cartoon where she played herself, and i "challenged" ego, but he has nothing to proove so nothing ever happened. Its not like i was actively seeking them to play characters i had already established tho.

As far as Ratouille, its true they did mix them, but look at the front cover of the DVD, whose on it? Not the celebrities names, just the characters and the companies. The celebrities werent the draw card of that movie, just good film making.

i dunno. even though you can tell from each cartoon egoraptors, rina chan and tomamatos voices instantly, it dosent mean they're bad voice actors. Have you ever sat down and tried to voice a toon? it's fucking hard, i think they're very good at what they do.

Ive done it may times over the years, tho i only really have one short im happy with, most of the stuff i did when i was a kid and i found it fun. Now days im very particular about it so i dont do it often.

I can see what you mean. When I watch a flash and notice a big name voice actor like, Tomamoto, Egoraptor, and/or Rina-Chan. I tend to focus on the person more than the character. I'm not saying they're bad actors. GOD NO! It just gets distracting, thats all.

Though I don't know the vocal works of David Firth, there are quite a few great unknown voice actors on this site or like ShockDingo, Aramek, p3rfect, MysticShinHanKu, sonicmega, and many more.

As an actor and a voice actor I always strive to better my acting abilities and I'm always open to constructive criticism.

Your not familiar with Salad Fingers?

You've hit the nail on the head in some respects. A lot of 'voice actors' end up sounding like anime actors because that's the cartoons they've watched and observed how the characters are voiced. Typically english anime dubs do not have very good acting in them at all when compared to other forms of animation, the clichéd fall back being that all males sound like they're suffering an emotional crisis and all females just talk as loud and as fast as they can.

You can see the huge difference in delivery when you compare works of the actors. Yuri Lowenthal is one of my voice acting idols. But while his voice work as Sasuke in Naruto (Never liked the anime much anyway) is nothing really to jump up and down over, his voice work in the Prince of Persia games is superb.

For my money, one of the best online voice actors available is Tomamoto, who's got amazing diversity and delivery. Other people like Mike Swain are pretty decent as well, and Egoraptor, glorified as he is has a lot of talent when he chooses to utilise it.

Swains Blockhead character really stands out to me, when i hear his voice i think of the character rather then the animator or voicer every time.

I'd probably do more voice acting if my microphone wasn't so suck.

How would you like to play the new time crisis game?

That is true ... I have seen a lot of bad movies on newgrounds that got , let's say a decent score just because they had a "celeb" voice in the thing...
Also it's verry hard to break through as a voice actor here on Newgrounds...

Just voice your own series and hope for the best, it doesnt help that most cartoons follow a sitcom format which in itself is hard to get fancy or dynamic with.

Hi Gerkinman! Why don't you make a post listing the talented unknown voice actors, and linking to their page?

That way people will have somewhere to search for voices, instead of just going after the ones they already know by fame.

See you.

What about Rina-Chan and Egoraptor?
They're pretty good voice actors as well.

I AM IRONICALLY QUOTING THIS.

I don't particularly care for the "anime" style, but there really are still a TON of incredible and versatile voice talents about in NG flash toons, and it's painfully disappointing how overlooked many of them are. John Mondelli, Phillip Sacramento, Jeremy Harrington and Francine Louise to name but a few.

Even so, the handful of "popular" names can still deliver amazing work when used to their strengths. What it all really comes down to is how keen flash producers are with regards to the casting and direction of their characters.

gyaHARGHHH i agreeeeeeeee

I've been saying this for a long time. The issue with voice acting is that its really really hard even comparable to actual acting and there are very few good voice actors (for those young enough to remember late 90s children cartoons, Katherine Soucie is a good example). I mean, this is half the reason why its almost impossible to watch anime dubbed, its so bad i prefer to read the dialogue.

No offense to Ego and Rina, but the first is not good and the second is average. I mean, they both use the same voice for all characters and Ego`s voice, though I am told its funny, is worse. And yes, if you recognise a voice actor, he or she is not doing the job right. David Firth, though, is godly in his work and it really is unfair to compare. Other decent voice actors are those used by Krin for his games and the Xombie series is pretty well done in that respect.

At the end, we shouldn`t be expecting good voice acting. It`s hard, and no one here is a professional that gets paid. But, at the same time, don`t make celebreties out of those that don`t deserve such a status and are average at best.

Lol, I forgot I ever did that. I think that was the first time I'd ever done a voice for anything actually.

also, this is somehting I constantly think yet I have never come to talk about.

whenever I hear "voice acting" or "I need a voice actor" I hear no more than 2 names: tomamoto and rina chan.

I like giving chances to new voice actors in newgrounds (n0obs have a better disposition to work and like to give you a 100% of themselves, wich I love), because honestly (and no effense) I think these two guys are the egoraptors of the voice acting world. they recieve all the attention there is even tough there are a million other voice actors around with equal or more talent.

again, no offense. you know im rght.

I personally wish it was just easier to find good voice actors. I sure as hell don't mind using popular voice actors in my toons (after all, they didn't get popular for being complete hacks), but I like to mix it up a bit too. Problem I have is just finding people. What we could really use around here is a page listing various voice actors along with demos to give us all an idea of who's out there. Assuming there isn't one already? I don't know I tend to miss things.

I liked pretty much all the voices in your last submission except Soundwave, he just didnt quite sound right, tho obviously nobody knows what the original filtering process was for his voice.

arghhh m8 !

Why does everybody keep mentioning me I haven't been in anything lately except (ugh) Parody Rangers.

Because your the only person whos name people know?
